    2019 - Vineyards AT Muirfield - swim meet wrap-up

    Marlins,

Well, it’s hard to believe but the 2019 swimming season is officially in the books.  Of course, we’ve got the party Sunday from 2-5, but the competition part of the season has ended.  I want to first thank all the volunteers that make it all possible.  A lot of people must do a lot of work to make things come together they way they do.  Our team looks like a well-oiled machine from concessions to operations to signups to coaching – thank you for making the swim meet process run so well that other teams comment about it to us.

Okay, on to the numbers!I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating – it’s HARD for the kids to keep improving so much over a short season.  The numbers below reflect an improvement over the best that each swimmer has ever done.  The weather delays didn’t do our kids any favors either, but they still stepped up and swam VERY well.  Over 32% of the races resulted in a swimmer’s personal best time!Impressive for sure!  Ultimately, we had 91 Marlins compete last night and a few bonus competitors at the end!

    Total Athletes 91
    Total Results 242
    Total Points 1046
    Total Improved Times 78
    Pct Improved Times 32.23%

Everybody may recall that I challenged our swimmers to step out of their comfort zone and try an event they haven’t attempted before.  The reports aren’t perfect in this area, so please my apologies if your swimmer attempted something new and it isn’t showing up.  I believe that prior DQ’s and a couple other metric issues are affecting the report reliability.  We also had some very late scratches forcing event changes that prevented some from trying a new event.  Nevertheless, thanks to Nate McCann for trying a new event for you, the 100 IM.

Once again, I wanted to list out all the swimmers that improved at least one of their personal best times, congratulations to all the swimmers for upping their game!  It’s the best way to end the season!

It was also a season of all time Marlin records falling, which once again happened Monday night.  Of the seven records broken last night, only one was from a previous season.  Four of the records broken were done so by the swimmer breaking their own record – well done!

I hope everybody enjoyed either participating or watching the final event of the meet.It was a hot evening, and hopefully it was a fun event for all.  Well, I wanted to report to you that a special congratulations goes out to Lane-1 team!  That team won in every judged category (style, grace, speed, and treachery) making it a decisive victory!  So, on behalf of the team in lane 1 (Coach’s Eileen, Sam, Kelli & Dax & me!) we will humbly accept all the richly earned praise and gratitude for putting on our talent exhibition.  Its too bad that lanes 2-6 were all DQ’d for a variety of purely legitimate and unbiased reasons, but we won’t let that tarnish our herculean accomplishment.

Well, that’s about the summary of the final 2019 swim meet.  Thanks again to all the swimmers and parents for participating.  Also, please keep sharing the great pictures to our Facebook page – much appreciated by everybody!
